The Okpe Peoples' Forum (OPF), a prominent socio-political and cultural organization representing the Okpe community, has officially endorsed Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term in office. The endorsement was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, highlighting the governor's accomplishments over the past three years in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.
Call for Unity and Support
The forum urged all Deltans, regardless of ethnic or political affiliations, to rally behind Governor Oborevwori's re-election bid in the 2027 governorship election. The group congratulated the governor on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the election, praising the party for conducting a peaceful and united primary process.
Confidence in Leadership
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Igho Akeregha, and Secretary, Pastor Edward Emoyadua Agba, the forum expressed strong confidence in the governor's leadership. It noted that his administration has delivered people-oriented projects under the M.O.R.E Agenda, which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enduring Peace and Security.
Notable Achievements
The forum highlighted several key achievements, including the construction of flyovers, roads, and bridges across all 25 local government areas, and the completion of a five-storey High Court Complex in Asaba to improve judicial administration. On economic empowerment, it cited grants to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), skilled workers, and vulnerable residents under the Delta CARES programme.
In healthcare, the group commended the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres and the implementation of free maternal and child healthcare programmes. It also noted upgrades at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in Oghara, which have strengthened access to quality medical services.
Education and Financial Management
The forum praised the government's investment in education, including the payment of bursaries to thousands of students and increased funding for tertiary institutions and health training colleges. It also lauded the administration's financial management, stating that Delta State has not taken fresh loans in the last three years while continuing to service existing obligations.
Challenges Ahead
While expressing satisfaction with the governor's performance, the forum urged him to address outstanding challenges in electricity supply, food security, industrialisation, and unemployment if re-elected. The group expressed confidence that Oborevwori would deepen development efforts and sustain peace and prosperity across the state if given a renewed mandate in 2027.
