Orekoya Declares Second-Term Bid for Lagos Assembly 2027

Hon. Abiodun Orekoya has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Somolu Constituency I, ahead of the 2027 elections. The declaration event, held on Thursday, May 14, at Oke Meta Memorial Primary School in Somolu, drew a large turnout of party supporters, community leaders, market women, and youths, reflecting strong support for the lawmaker.

Orekoya Highlights Achievements

Addressing the crowd, Orekoya thanked his constituents for their unwavering support and urged them to renew his mandate, emphasizing that more work remains to be done. He stated, "The journey of development in Somolu is not yet complete," and pledged to intensify efforts in youth empowerment, infrastructure development, education support, and community growth if re-elected.

During his first term, Orekoya, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), contributed to legislative work on several bills, including the Lagos State Administration of Civil Justice Bill (2023), the Local Government Administration Bill (2024), and the Community Development Association Bill (2024). He also highlighted his education and empowerment initiatives: 147 students received bursaries, four others obtained scholarships, and 250 GCE forms and 150 JAMB forms were distributed to students. Additionally, his office reported that over 340 residents benefited from grants, vocational tools, and business support, while 29 individuals secured employment in the Lagos State public service through his intervention.

Constituents Praise Accessibility

As chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Social Development, Orekoya has overseen programmes such as football tournaments, youth assemblies, and police-community dialogue sessions. He noted that infrastructure development remains a priority, with more than ten roads reconstructed or rehabilitated across the constituency. Several constituents who attended the declaration praised Orekoya's accessibility and performance, openly endorsing his bid for another term.
