The Oshodi Mandate Movement has firmly dismissed allegations challenging the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, asserting that Mayowa Alakija emerged as the party's candidate through a credible and transparent process.
Press Conference Addresses Allegations
Addressing a press conference attended by party members, stakeholders, and supporters, the leader of the movement, Comrade Chief Dele Ogunsakin, described claims questioning the legitimacy of the primary as misleading and inconsistent with the events that transpired during the exercise. He accused a faction within the party of attempting to stir controversy after the declaration of results rather than accepting the outcome of the contest.
Primary Election Conduct
According to Ogunsakin, the primary election was conducted at approved venues across the constituency's five wards under the supervision of designated party officials. He stated that results were subsequently collated and announced in line with APC guidelines. He maintained that the exercise was transparent, competitive, and conducted in accordance with established procedures.
Ogunsakin noted that ward chairmen who monitored the exercise had affirmed the conduct of the election and rejected what he described as fabricated narratives being circulated after the poll.
Political History and Relevance
The movement's leader also highlighted the group's political history in Oshodi, describing it as a longstanding structure built over decades by progressive leaders in the constituency. He argued that attempts to diminish its influence ignored its significant contributions to political development in the area.
He further dismissed claims that members of the movement had been politically marginalized, citing representation in local government administration, ward leadership positions, elective offices, and political appointments as evidence of its continued relevance.
Call for Unity
Calling for unity within the APC, Ogunsakin urged aggrieved members to put the primary behind them and work together for the party's success in the general election. "Every political contest produces winners and losers, but preserving party unity is more important than prolonging internal disagreements," he said.
He added that the people of Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I had made their choice through the primary election and that attention should now shift to consolidating support for the party ahead of the next stage of the electoral process.
