In a significant development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has issued a strong rebuttal to widespread reports suggesting that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Party Chairman Issues Firm Denial
The State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sama’ila Adamu Burga, categorically dismissed the defection claims in a press statement released on Friday, January 9, 2026. Burga described the circulating reports as false, misleading, and irresponsible, urging the public to disregard what he termed deliberate misinformation.
"At no time, either privately or publicly, has Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed expressed any intention to defect to the ADC, APC, or any other political party," Burga stated emphatically. He clarified that the governor remains a loyal and principled member of the PDP.
Stakeholders Unite in Show of Support
The defection narrative was decisively addressed during a major stakeholders' meeting convened by Governor Mohammed himself on Sunday, January 4, 2026. According to Chairman Burga, the gathering served as a powerful demonstration of party unity.
The meeting witnessed broad attendance from top party echelons, including:
- The Deputy National Chairman of the PDP.
- Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly led by the Speaker.
- State Executive Council members.
- State and local government party executives.
- Chairmen of all 20 Local Government Areas.
- Serving members of the House of Representatives, former senators, and former speakers.
Participants unanimously passed a resounding vote of confidence in Governor Mohammed, praising his leadership, humility, and commitment to good governance.
Reaffirmation of Democratic Values and Party Loyalty
Burga highlighted that Governor Mohammed's principled stances on constitutional order and national issues have sometimes attracted challenges, including harassment and media attacks. However, he stressed that these pressures have not weakened the governor's resolve.
"The governor does not take major political decisions unilaterally. Consultation, inclusiveness, and collective leadership remain core values of the PDP," Burga added, underscoring the party's internal democratic processes.
He disclosed that Governor Mohammed expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and reaffirmed his total loyalty to the PDP, while renewing his commitment to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria.
The PDP chairman concluded by reiterating the party's openness to constructive engagement based on truth and democratic norms, but firmly warned against speculative and divisive rumours. He affirmed that the PDP remains the party of the people, with Governor Bala Mohammed firmly rooted in its ideals as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
