PDP Screens Jonathan as Sole Presidential Aspirant for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has scheduled the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan for Tuesday, May 19, as the party's sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections.

Screening Committee Members Announced

According to a statement from the PDP faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a 14-member committee will screen Jonathan. The committee includes former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi.

Other members are Chief Olabode George, Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Dr. Abdul Bulama, Dr. Esther Uduehi, Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi, Dr. Sunday Solarium, and Chief Anicho Okoro, who will serve as administrative secretary.

Jonathan's Party Membership Confirmed

Last week, the faction's National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, disclosed that Jonathan had successfully registered as a PDP member during the fresh digital registration exercise directed by INEC.

Extensive Screening for Other Aspirants

The PDP faction also announced plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship aspirants, and 2,122 state Houses of Assembly aspirants. The exercise will commence nationwide on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Official Statement

The statement confirmed that the Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) has released the names of members for the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels. It added that the publication of screening details is in accordance with the party's guidelines and timetable for the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
