In a significant move to address the biting economic challenges faced by residents, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure in Oyo State has launched a major relief initiative. Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a leading gubernatorial aspirant, has begun distributing over one thousand bags of rice across all 33 local government areas of the state.
A Direct Response to Rising Living Costs
Ajadi announced the commencement of the distribution during his ongoing consultations with party stakeholders and community leaders. He stated that the initiative is specifically designed to cushion the impact of economic hardship on party members and vulnerable citizens, who are grappling with the severe rise in the cost of living.
He emphasised that the exercise, which cuts across every local government, is not a political stunt. Instead, Ajadi described it as a continuation of his long-standing tradition of social support and responsiveness to the needs of people at the grassroots level.
Ensuring Fairness and Transparency in Distribution
The PDP chieftain outlined the process for selecting beneficiaries. He explained that recipients are being drawn from PDP structures at the ward and local government levels, as well as from vulnerable groups identified by trusted community leaders. Ajadi stressed that the entire process is being guided by the principles of transparency, equity, and accountability.
"Leadership is about feeling the pulse of the people and responding to their needs, not only during elections but at all times," Ajadi said. "This rice is being distributed across all local governments to ensure fairness, inclusiveness and unity within our party and communities."
Strengthening Grassroots Ties Ahead of 2027
This philanthropic effort coincides with Ajadi's intensified political consultations across Oyo State. He has been engaging with party executives, ward chairmen, local government officials, traditional rulers, and youth groups. Political observers note that the intervention is strategically strengthening his grassroots presence within the core structures of the PDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
A PDP chieftain in Ibadan, who spoke anonymously, praised the move as "timely and thoughtful," reflecting a practical understanding of the socio-economic pressures on party members and ordinary citizens.
Ajadi further connected the relief effort to his broader policy vision. "When government works for the people, hunger reduces, hope is restored and trust in leadership grows," he added. He stated that food security, social welfare, and economic empowerment remain central to his agenda for Oyo State, which he says will prioritise people-oriented governance, security, and sustainable development.
As a businessman, philanthropist, and seasoned political actor, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has built a reputation for grassroots mobilisation and youth empowerment. Through this large-scale rice distribution, he reinforces his image as a politician committed to translating promises into tangible action for the people of Oyo State.
