2027: PDP's Wabara Actively Woos Abia Governor Alex Otti to Join Party
PDP's Wabara Woos Governor Alex Otti Ahead of 2027

In a significant political overture, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party's Board of Trustees, Dr. Adolphus Wabara, has publicly extended an invitation to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to defect to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PDP Seeks Otti as a Viable Asset for 2027

Speaking to journalists, the former Senate President expressed optimism that Governor Otti would see the PDP as the viable vehicle to actualise his second-term ambition. Wabara, who leads the BoT of the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP faction, stated that the Labour Party governor would be warmly welcomed if he decides to cross over.

He attributed the growing political interest in Otti from various parties to his impressive scorecard over his 32-month tenure as governor. Wabara believes this track record will be a decisive factor in the 2027 polls.

Repositioning PDP as a Credible Alternative

Wabara also highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee to reposition the PDP. He asserted that these reforms have transformed the party into a more credible alternative for progressive aspirants seeking governorship and other elective offices in the next election cycle.

Emphasizing the PDP's historical strength in the region, Wabara predicted that the South-East would return as a major force in Nigeria's political landscape. He stated that Otti's potential defection would significantly brighten the PDP's chances in the zone, which he described as a traditional stronghold of the party.

Acknowledging Performance Beyond Party Lines

The elder statesman lavished praise on Governor Otti's developmental strides across multiple sectors in Abia State. He specifically commended achievements in:

  • Road infrastructure
  • Healthcare delivery
  • Education
  • Industry and security
  • Rural development

Wabara also applauded the governor for articulating and activating the Abia State 25-year development plan, calling it a clear roadmap for a 'New and Greater Abia'.

Stressing a moral obligation to acknowledge good performance regardless of political affiliation, Wabara said, "As an elder statesman and a stakeholder in the Abia polity, I have a moral obligation to acknowledge performance, not minding party affiliation. Good governance should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics."

He concluded by asserting that Otti has set Abia on a path of greatness envisioned by its founders, and joining the PDP would further brighten his political prospects for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
