Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has categorically denied reports that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a committed member of the ruling party. The clarification comes amid widespread speculation and social media rumors suggesting he had joined another political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.
Fubara Dismisses Defection Claims
Reacting to the rumors, Governor Fubara described the media frenzy surrounding his political affiliation as unnecessary drama. He emphasized that his party membership status has not changed. "I know that there's been a lot of drama in the media, one story and another," the governor remarked. "I remain a member of the Congress and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from the social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly."
Fubara further declared that he has not joined any other political party, despite the swirling speculation. "I have not gone anywhere. I'm still a member of the Progressive Congress, and I remain a member," he asserted.
Call for Party Unity
The Rivers governor also urged political supporters and stakeholders to prioritize the overall interest of the APC, especially amid ongoing political tensions in the state. "Whatever happens, what is most important is supporting the overall interest of the party," he added.
This clarification comes at a time of heightened political realignments and strategic moves ahead of the 2027 elections, with numerous reports linking prominent figures to possible cross-party defections. Governor Fubara's firm stance seeks to quell any doubts about his loyalty to the APC and rally support for the party's agenda in Rivers State.
