Seven Benue APC Reps lose tickets, Farouk Lawan out

Seven of the eleven House of Representatives members in Benue State lost their seats during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections held over the weekend. In Jigawa State, four-term lawmaker Sa'idu Miga also lost his return ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, ending nearly two decades in federal politics. Meanwhile, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere claimed victory in the APC primary for Owan East/Owan West Federal Constituency in Edo State.

Benue State losses

The wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Regina Akume, secured the APC nomination for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency with 19,638 votes, defeating former Commissioner Alomo Orpin who scored 2,779 votes. Blessing Onuh, daughter of a former Senate President, won the Otukpo/Ohimini constituency with 17,451 votes against Lawrence Onoja's 974 votes. Solomon Wombo emerged victorious for Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo constituency.

Jigawa State development

Sa'idu Miga, who first entered the House of Representatives in 2003 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before joining the APC in 2014, lost his bid for re-election. Growing dissatisfaction among constituents over poor representation and lack of visible projects weakened his support base in Jahun and Miga local councils.

Abdulmumin Jibrin secured the APC ticket for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency. Shehu Muhammad won for Fagge Federal Constituency, and Abdullahi Ganduje for Kabo/Gwarzo Federal Constituency. However, former House member Farouk Lawan lost the APC ticket for Bagwai/Shannon Federal Constituency to Yusuf Badau in a keenly contested primary.

APC spokesperson in Kano, Auwalu Soja, confirmed that 22 candidates emerged via consensus while elections were held in two constituencies where consensus failed. Results from other constituencies were still under collation.

Delta State praise

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the peaceful conduct of APC House of Representatives primaries across Delta State, describing the exercise as a reflection of party unity and transparency. He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and calm atmosphere during the Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency primary.

Borno inconclusive

The Borno APC declared the House of Representatives primary in Askira/Uba/Hawul federal constituency inconclusive. Chairman of the election committee, Ode Erue, attributed the decision to non-submission of the party's Appeal Committee report. He noted that primaries across the state's 312 wards and 27 local councils were peaceful and orderly.
