President Bola Tinubu has commended the conduct of the ongoing primary elections of the All Progressives Congress across the country, describing the exercise as a clear demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.
President Expresses Satisfaction
The President, who spoke with journalists during the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly manner in which the primaries were being conducted in various states, noting that the process had largely adhered to democratic standards and party guidelines.
According to him, the primaries have provided party members at all levels the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the leadership and direction of the ruling party.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy and it has been going very well according to plan,” Tinubu stated. “This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved. It is to ensure that we have internal democracy, and it is peaceful and well-organised.”
Praise for Governors and Party Leaders
The President also praised state governors and party leaders for overseeing what he described as a credible and transparent process across the federation.
Responding to questions on whether he was satisfied with the conduct of the primaries nationwide, Tinubu said the exercise had met expectations and reflected the growing maturity of democratic processes within the APC.
“Today, I am very satisfied, very, very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” he said. “In fact, from the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, membership register and certification of the electoral process, it has all gone very well.
“At least, you will score democracy at a high level.”
Encouragement for Party Unity
The President further noted that the enthusiastic participation and support shown by party faithful across the country served as encouragement for the party leadership to deepen democratic ideals and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
“I’m just excited. They challenge me more,” Tinubu added.
The APC has been conducting primaries across states to select candidates for various elective positions ahead of the next round of elections, with party leaders repeatedly stressing the need for transparency, inclusiveness and unity throughout the process.
