President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election. He was declared the winner of the party's presidential primaries conducted across Nigeria on Saturday, May 23. The exercise took place in all 8,809 wards spanning the country's 774 local government areas.
Only Challenger
Tinubu's sole challenger in the race was APC chieftain and businessman Stanley Osifo from Edo State, who contested the primary. Despite the competition, Tinubu secured the majority of votes to clinch the ticket.
Certificate of Return
Following his victory, the President was presented with a Certificate of Return and the party flag, officially designating him as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election. The development solidifies his position as the party's standard-bearer for the upcoming polls.
The primaries were widely monitored by party officials and observers, ensuring a transparent process. Tinubu's campaign has since expressed gratitude to party members for their support and confidence in his leadership.
Looking Ahead
With the nomination secured, Tinubu is expected to focus on building a broad coalition and outlining his agenda for the 2027 election. Political analysts anticipate a competitive race as other parties also prepare to field candidates.
