Thousands of youths and party faithfuls recently held a solidarity walk in support of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the House of Assembly member representing Eti-Osa Constituency II in Lagos State, Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu. The event, tagged 'I stand with President Bola Tinubu and GOY,' was flagged off from Y-Arena Obalende and covered major areas in the constituency, including Ijeh, Dolphin, Ikoyi, Falomo, Takwa-Bay, Victoria Island, Bonny Camp, Dodan Barracks, Bar Beach, Onikan Roundabout, Adeola Odeku, and Akin Adeola.
Highlights of the Walk
A notable highlight of the event was a stop along the Bourdillon axis, close to President Tinubu's residence, where the youths displayed a solidarity salute. Former Eti-Osa youth leader Durojaiye Adetimi stated that the walk was a reaffirmation of grassroots support for the Renewed Hope Movement of President Tinubu and the continued representation of Yishawu in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
'We are in full support of Mr. President's economic reform. We are in full support of his plan for this country. And we are in full support for him to go for a second term,' Adetimi said. He assured Yishawu of the full support of the youths and lauded the aspirant for providing welfare, empowering the youths, believing in community engagement, and organizing the party.
Adetimi's Remarks
Adetimi added, 'Honorable Yishawu believes so much in community engagement, youth development programs, sustainability growth, and community welfare. In the House of Assembly, he has sponsored numerous bills in favor of the common man on the streets.' He urged the aspirant 'to continue the good work he started,' noting that 'he has started very well and should continue. That's what we just want. Because there is nothing he hasn't touched. So what we just want him to do is to continue and sustain it. He should never be intimidated.'
Yishawu's Speech
In his speech, Yishawu appreciated the team for their support and urged them to come out and support him and President Tinubu during the primaries. 'We have to show our love and support. I beg you all to please come out during the primaries and support us, especially during the president's primaries. We have to show support. Together, we are better and stronger. This movement is not about noise. It is about people who believe in continuity, stability, and the future of our country and constituency,' Yishawu said.
Afinnih's Endorsement
Former Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Taiwo Afinnih, said: 'Yishawu doesn't play games. He makes sure everybody is okay in his constituency. He ensures everyone sees the dividends of democracy in this environment. I will always support him. And I pray God Almighty keeps him in good health.'
Community Support
Fielding questions from journalists, one of the executives in Dodan Barracks, Halimat Bawa, noted: 'The massive population that turned out for the solidarity walk is a testament to the love we have for him. He is the right man for us. We have never seen any politician do what he has done in our constituency. That's why we want him re-elected. He is a kind person. He is the right man for the job. If he says he wants to contest 100 times, we are fully behind him with our full chest. He does a lot of empowerment for women, also. Look at our community; everything is growing. When you go to our primary schools, you will see what he is doing there. He is bent on empowerment. I was one of the teachers that taught at one of the schools during the empowerment training, as one of the catering teachers,' Bawa stated.
