Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency. The primary, held on Saturday, saw Buhari secure 5,849 votes, while his sole challenger, Auwal Lawal Daura, managed only 21 votes. This decisive win positions Buhari as the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The primary election was part of the APC's nationwide National Assembly primaries, as political parties ramp up preparations for the 2027 elections. Following his win, Yusuf Buhari took to social media to thank delegates, party leaders, and supporters for their overwhelming confidence. In a post on X, he stated: "I wish to sincerely thank the delegates, party leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency for the overwhelming confidence and support." He described the mandate as a stepping stone toward greater representation and development for the constituency.

His father, Muhammadu Buhari, served as Nigeria's president from 2015 to 2023 under the APC banner and previously as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.

APC Disqualifies Some Aspirants

In related news, the APC released a list of House of Representatives aspirants disqualified from its screening process ahead of the 2027 elections. The affected aspirants hail from Ondo, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kogi, and Rivers states. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced the development in a statement, noting that the screening was conducted in line with established procedures. However, the reasons for the disqualifications were not disclosed.

Power Minister Declares Governorship Ambition

Meanwhile, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has declared his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in 2027. Adelabu, who recently returned to the APC from the Accord Party, stated that his move was aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu and fostering party unity. He clarified that his ambition is not to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde but to serve the people of Oyo State.
