A faction of the Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Hon. Kabiru Garba Gusau, has reversed its earlier position and rejected Barrister Mahadi Aliyu Gusau as the party's governorship candidate in the state. The faction now claims that Gusau is not a member of the ADC and therefore cannot represent the party in any election.
Faction Calls for Calm
The party urged all members and supporters to disregard rumors and misinformation being spread by certain groups that Barrister Mahadi Aliyu Gusau is the ADC's governorship candidate. This was stated in a release issued this morning by the faction's spokesman, Comrade Abdulkareem Umar, who called on supporters to remain focused on the party's activities and objectives.
“We also call on the media to exercise caution and responsibility in reporting, as sharing unverified or misleading news can harm the credibility of their platforms,” the statement added. “The ethics of journalism stipulate news balancing, and we encourage adherence to it.”
Background of the Dispute
Previously, the same faction had repeatedly informed journalists that Barrister Mahadi Aliyu Gusau was the party's governorship candidate. The two factions of the ADC in Zamfara are now locked in a struggle for supremacy, leaving the party without authentic leadership as it remains divided into two opposing groups.
