Angola 2026 Visa-Free List for 16 African Countries

Angola has officially released the list of African countries whose citizens can enter without a visa in 2026, detailing 16 nations eligible under a presidential decree that has been in effect since 2023. The exemption, governed by Presidential Decree No. 188/23, allows nationals from these countries to stay for up to 30 days for purposes including tourism, business, transit, official missions, and medical treatment. The list was updated as recently as January 2026.

The full list of eligible African nations includes: Kingdom of Eswatini, Republic of Seychelles, Botswana, Republic of Cape Verde, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republic of Namibia, Republic of The Gambia, Republic of Benin, Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Republic of Rwanda, Republic of Zimbabwe, Republic of Madagascar, Republic of Niger, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Malawi, and Côte d'Ivoire.

The exemption applies to holders of diplomatic, official, and ordinary passports, meaning it is not restricted to government or diplomatic travelers. According to Angolan authorities, the policy aims to boost regional integration and tourism.

What Travellers Need to Know Before Visiting Angola

Despite the visa waiver, several conditions must be met. Angolan authorities strongly recommend arriving with a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Travelers should also be prepared to show proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, as well as a return or onward ticket. The exemption does not extend to all reasons for travel: anyone intending to work, study, take up residence, or undergo prolonged medical treatment must obtain the appropriate visa before traveling.

Angolan migration authorities retain the right to deny entry to any traveler they believe does not meet the conditions of the exemption, even if that person holds a passport from one of the listed countries. The policy is part of Angola's broader efforts to ease travel for African nationals and promote economic cooperation.
