KWAM1 Writes Gov Abiodun, Alleges Exclusion from Awujale Nomination Process
Fuji Star KWAM1 Protests Exclusion from Awujale Stool Process

Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM1, has formally petitioned the Ogun State Government over his alleged exclusion from the process to nominate a candidate for the revered throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

Legal Petition Highlights Alleged Breach of Due Process

The development was made public on Sunday by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. In a letter dated 8th January 2026 and addressed to the Ogun State Executive Council through Governor Dapo Abiodun, KWAM1's legal team, led by Wahab K. Shittu SAN, expressed serious grievances.

The musician contends that the steps taken so far by the Ijebu Ode Local Government and the Fusengbuwa Ruling House are wrongful and violate established procedures. The petition, titled “Representation Against The Wrongful Attempts Not To Follow Due Process In The Nomination Of Candidates To Fill The Vacancy In The Stool Of Awujale of Ijebuland,” calls for immediate intervention to ensure justice.

Allegations of Disenfranchisement and Illegal Directives

KWAM1's legal team referenced a letter from the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, dated 6th January 2026 (ref: IOLG/584/11/34), which directed the ruling house to convene a statutory meeting to nominate candidates within 14 days. However, the petition alleges that the family's leadership introduced unauthorized requirements.

It was claimed that one Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, identifying as the family's Public Relations Officer, issued a notice demanding that aspirants pick up nomination forms and appear before a screening committee chaired by Prince Alhaji Mutiu Adenuga. This exercise was scheduled for 12th January 2026 at the Bisrod Event Centre, with delegates to be selected at a meeting on 10th January 2026.

The petition strongly objects to these stipulations, stating they are alien to the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State 2021. KWAM1's lawyers argue that these moves are a deliberate plan to disenfranchise certain members of the ruling house, including their client, from freely participating in the nomination.

Call for Governor's Intervention to Uphold Integrity

The letter emphasizes that every member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has the right to attend the nomination meeting and put forward candidates. It warns that allowing a select group to hijack the process could precipitate a crisis in what should be a transparent and seamless exercise.

In conclusion, the legal team counselled Governor Abiodun to take timely steps to address these fundamental concerns to protect the integrity of the entire succession process. They stressed that adherence to due process is paramount for justice and the peaceful resolution of the royal succession in Ijebuland.
