Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has disbursed ₦20,000 to each of the 1,490 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch 'B', Stream II orientation, amounting to a total outlay of ₦29.8 million. The funds are intended to cover transportation costs and other pressing needs as the corps members transition from the orientation camp to their primary assignments across Kogi State.
Ceremony and Official Confirmation
The governor made the announcement during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'B', Stream II NYSC Orientation Course, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba. As reported by The Punch, the Information Officer for the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, James Sani, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, represented the governor at the event.
Speaking through his representative, Governor Ododo expressed the government's confidence in young Nigerians to drive development. He stated, "This administration has unwavering confidence in the capacity of young people to excel and contribute positively to the implementation of youth-focused development programmes."
Governor's Message and Pledge
The governor called on the corps members to integrate responsibly into their host communities and apply the skills acquired during their three-week orientation. He urged them to embody discipline, integrity, patriotism, and service throughout their year of national service. Ododo also pledged that his administration would continue to prioritize youth empowerment, adding, "This administration would continue to strengthen and add value to youth empowerment initiatives aimed at improving productivity, self-reliance and the overall development of young people in the state."
He also gave assurances regarding the safety and welfare of all corps members serving in Kogi, appealing to host communities to receive them warmly and ensure their security during their deployment.
NYSC Coordinator's Commendation
Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, informed attendees that the 1,490 corps members had completed three weeks of intensive physical, mental, and moral reorientation to prepare them for a productive service year. She thanked Governor Ododo for what she described as consistent backing for corps members in the state, noting that his support has included both food items and financial assistance on previous occasions. Mrs Tochi called the latest cash donation timely and said it reflected genuine concern for the welfare of those serving in Kogi State.
