Rivers LG Chairmen Declare Support for Tinubu's 2027 Re-election
Rivers LG Chairmen Back Tinubu for 2027 Re-election

All 23 local government chairmen in Rivers State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid for the 2027 general elections, predicting a landslide victory in the state and across Nigeria.

Delegation Visits Abuja for FCT Projects

The declaration was made on Monday, July 13, 2026, during a delegation visit to Abuja. The council chairmen attended the commissioning of infrastructure projects executed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Minister Nyesom Wike. These inaugurations were part of a 31-day programme marking President Tinubu's third anniversary in office.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Rivers State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Executive Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda, praised the development visible across Abuja under Wike's stewardship.

'Walkover' Predicted for 2027

Ihunda forecasted a 'walkover' for Tinubu in Rivers State, stating that historic political rivalries have dissolved in favour of a broad pro-Tinubu front. He said: 'The 2027 election in Rivers State will be a walkover. For the first time, virtually all political parties are working together in the interest of the President and the federal government.' He described this as a 'rainbow coalition,' dismissing concerns about incumbency advantage.

Wike's FCT Performance Commended

Beyond electoral politics, the delegation lauded Wike's performance as FCT Minister, noting that no previous minister had undertaken infrastructure delivery of such scale. The visit coincided with the 24th consecutive day of project commissionings under the anniversary programme. Ihunda highlighted renovations of schools, upgrading of hospitals, and youth empowerment initiatives as key achievements.

Ihunda emphasised that the trip from Port Harcourt to Abuja was deliberate: 'If we were not happy with him, we wouldn't have come all the way from Rivers State to Abuja.'
