President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), formalising the party's organisational push for a second term. The announcement was reported by Legit.ng.
Shettima, 59, is a former governor of Borno State and remains a close and loyal ally of Tinubu. The Nigerian leader has publicly described Shettima as a dependable partner and an immovable pillar of support.
APC Governors Meet Tinubu Over Campaign Council List
Meanwhile, President Tinubu held closed-door talks with governors elected on the APC platform, known as the Progressives Governors' Forum, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The meeting was part of a series of engagements with governors and top party chieftains to resolve the crisis surrounding the controversial PCC list released on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The governors arrived at the President's office shortly before 4:00 pm on Thursday, after emerging from a separate session of the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Shettima. According to The Punch, consultations began on Wednesday, August 26, aimed at reviewing and reworking the PCC list, which has generated controversy since its release.
Ebonyi Governor's Omission Sparks Concern
Chinedu Ogah, the House of Representatives member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, has appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider the exclusion of Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru from the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. Ogah, an APC chieftain, argued that Nwifuru deserved a prominent role due to his commitment to the party, his efforts to strengthen its structure in Ebonyi, and his contribution to peace and unity within the party.
Ogah warned that Nwifuru's omission could send the wrong political signal to the people of Ebonyi, particularly the Abakaliki bloc, which he described as a major political constituency in the state. Vanguard quoted Ogah as saying: "Abakaliki bloc cannot be neglected in the presidential list."
Akpabio Named Deputy Director General South I
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Tinubu named Senate President Godswill Akpabio as the Deputy Director General South I of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. Akpabio expressed confidence that Tinubu will secure a second term in office in the 2027 elections, citing the administration's achievements. He said the ruling APC would have sufficient achievements to present to Nigerians when campaigns begin.
The 2027 Nigerian elections are scheduled to begin on January 16, 2027, following a revised timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
