Hon. Ma’sud Musa Bashar Rahamaniyya, the Director of the City Boys Movement in Sokoto State, has sent a heartfelt condolence message to the Sultan of Sokoto following the death of the former Minister of Finance of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji. The elder statesman, who also served as Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, passed away at a hospital in Abuja on Thursday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 94.
In a personally signed statement, Ma’sud, who also holds the traditional title of Turakin Wazirin Sokoto, described the late Sardauna as a father figure, mentor, and an exceptional public servant. He extended his sympathies on behalf of the City Boys Movement to the entire Sokoto Sultanate Council, the state governor, and the people of Sokoto State.

“It is with profound sorrow that I, on behalf of the City Boys Movement, Sokoto State Chapter, extend my deepest condolences over the passing of our beloved father, elder statesman and Sarduanan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji,” the statement read. Ma’sud expressed gratitude to Almighty God that the late Sokoto prince lived a life worthy of emulation and passed on at a ripe age.
He emphasised that the deceased’s wisdom, humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national development earned him the respect and admiration of people across the country. “His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” Ma’sud added, underscoring the lasting impact of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji’s decades of service.
A Life of Distinguished Service
Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, popularly known as “Triple A” due to his initials, served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and later as the country’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, he was regarded as a pillar of the Sokoto establishment, holding the revered traditional title of Sardauna of Sokoto. His role in shaping national economic policy and fostering diplomatic ties left an indelible mark on the country.
Born into royalty, the late statesman dedicated his life to the service of Allah, Sokoto State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
