In a significant move to honour dedication and hard work, the Lagos State Government has generously rewarded 177 of its public servants. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu presented the awards, which included five brand new cars and a total cash sum of N165.5 million.
Celebrating Quiet Excellence in Public Service
The recognition ceremony took place during the 2025 Mr. Governor’s Luncheon held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the event was to celebrate those who demonstrate commitment and integrity, often without seeking recognition. He noted that many of these individuals work quietly, yet their impact is felt daily across all state ministries and agencies.
In a statement shared on his official X handle on Monday, December 15, the Governor elaborated on his motivation. He stated that recognising such excellence encourages others to raise their standards and serves as a reminder that the state progresses because of dedicated personnel who consistently perform their duties well.
Breakdown of the 2025 Awards and Prizes
The details of the distribution were provided by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The rewards were structured across two main categories:
For the senior category of civil servants, a total of 99 individuals were honoured. From this group, five lucky officials won brand new cars through a raffle draw. The remaining 94 senior staff each received a cash award of N1 million.
In the junior category, 73 outstanding staff members were each rewarded with N500,000. Additionally, five exceptional junior staff were awarded a larger sum of N5 million each for their remarkable service.
A Culture of Reward and Recognition
Governor Sanwo-Olu took time to personally congratulate the car winners, discussing themes of responsibility and ethical leadership in public office. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Lagos State Government to incentivize high performance and consistency in service delivery.
The gesture aligns with similar end-of-year bonuses announced by other state governors. For instance, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for each civil servant and had earlier increased the state's minimum wage. Similarly, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State approved a 13th-month salary bonus for workers in 2025.
The Lagos awards underscore the administration's commitment to valuing its workforce, proving that diligent service, even when performed without fanfare, does not go unnoticed.
