The appointment, confirmed on Friday, December 19, 2025, is designed to bolster the effectiveness of the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics and improve the overall standard of the Civil and Public Service.
A Merit-Based Appointment
The announcement was made public in a formal statement released by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya. He clarified that the governor's decision aligns perfectly with Section 12 (1) of the Ogun State Statistical Law, 2012.
Mrs. Adebayo was chosen from a group of high-performing Directors who are part of the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme. This initiative is specifically crafted to prepare and provide capable officers for senior appointments within the state's civil service structure.
Omolara Adebayo's Career Journey
Mrs. Adebayo is a long-serving member of the Ogun State Civil Service, having begun her career on November 19, 2001, as a Statistician on Grade Level 08. Through dedication and consistent performance, she climbed the ranks over the years.
Her most recent promotion saw her become a Deputy Director (Statistician) on Grade Level 16, effective January 1, 2024. Following the statutory retirement of the former office holder in May 2025, she had been serving in an acting capacity as the Statistician-General prior to this permanent appointment.
Academic and Professional Credentials
An accomplished professional, Mrs. Adebayo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan, which she earned in January 1999. She furthered her education with a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics from Ogun State University.
Demonstrating a commitment to modern technical skills, she also secured an Oracle 11g Certification in 2012, achieving an impressive pass grade of 95 percent.
The official statement from the state government urged the newly appointed Statistician-General to apply dedication, diligence, and selflessness in her new role. She is expected to relentlessly pursue excellence in her service to Ogun State.
Police Swiftly Aid Defrauded Cameroonian National
In a separate incident highlighting police responsiveness, the Ogun State Police Command provided crucial assistance to a Cameroonian woman, Kelly Maffo, who was defrauded in the Ibafo area.
The case, involving obtaining money under false pretences, was reported at the Ibafo Division on Thursday, December 18, 2025, around 3:00 p.m. The victim alleged she was defrauded of over N2 million by suspects who promised to process a visa for her.
After realizing she had been deceived and abandoned along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Maffo sought help at the nearest police station. Officers received her promptly and launched an immediate investigation.
In a notable act of compassion and leadership, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ibafo Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ajayi, personally intervened. He reportedly used personal funds to pay for Maffo's transport back to the airport, ensuring her safety and that she caught her scheduled flight.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the DPO and his team for their professional and humane response. CP Ogunlowo also called for public support, stating, “I urge members of the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to support the Police with credible information. The Ogun State Police Command remains fully prepared to ensure a safe, peaceful state.”
Police authorities confirmed that efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects are actively ongoing.
