Olaopa and Walson-Jack Launch Joint Committee to Strengthen Civil Service Synergy
In a significant move to enhance collaboration within Nigeria's civil service, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), and Mrs Esther Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), inaugurated a joint technical committee in Abuja yesterday. This initiative aims to harmonize positions on common issues, ensuring the civil service is fortified through optimal leadership and streamlined operations.
Background and Inauguration
The inauguration of the technical committee follows the maiden OHCSF-FCSC Joint Retreat held on October 13, 2025, where key areas of mutual concern were identified. Prof. Olaopa emphasized that the retreat facilitated an agreement to establish a joint team tasked with examining and resolving deep-seated issues and technical design elements. This process involves thorough research and nuanced analysis to produce a well-thought-out baseline report.
Objectives and Expected Outcomes
According to Olaopa, the report generated by the committee will serve as a foundation for future periodic meetings and engagements. Through incremental improvements and sustained interrogation, the strained boundaries in the functional relationship between the FCSC and OHCSF will be corrected. This dynamic approach is expected to crystallize a seamless working relationship, enhancing institutional partnership as both offices continue to discharge their responsibilities.
Key areas of focus include:
- Providing effective leadership within the civil service.
- Strengthening competency-based human resources management.
- Improving career management systems.
- Deepening and consolidating shared gatekeeping responsibilities in public administration.
This collaborative effort is poised to boost the efficiency and professionalism of Nigeria's civil service, aligning with broader goals of public sector reform and national development.
