The signing ceremony, held on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, at the Governor's Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marks a pivotal step in the state's development agenda for the coming year.
A Significant Fiscal Leap for Ogun State
Governor Abiodun highlighted the substantial growth in the state's financial planning, noting that the new budget represents a 58 per cent increase over the 2025 budget of ₦1.054 trillion. He expressed his administration's excitement about the progress, stating that immediate implementation would commence after the holidays to ensure improved performance in both revenue generation and expenditure.
The budget, christened the "Budget of Sustainable Legacy," was initially presented to the Ogun State House of Assembly for consideration on December 3, 2025. The governor praised the timely passage and signing, which aligns with his administration's commitment to fiscal continuity, predictability, and effective governance.
Collaborative Effort with the Legislative Arm
The event was graced by key government figures, including the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, alongside principal officers, assembly members, and the State Executive Council. Governor Abiodun extended his gratitude to the legislature for their diligent and cooperative work in scrutinizing the bill.
"Let me first thank the Speaker and the entire Ogun State House of Assembly for working hand in glove with the Executive," Abiodun said. He commended their swift action, noting they thoroughly engaged with all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to pass the bill expeditiously, even during the holiday period.
Legislative Scrutiny and Commitment
In his remarks, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide confirmed that the bill underwent rigorous scrutiny by lawmakers to ensure it aligns with the developmental needs and aspirations of Ogun State citizens. He emphasized the hard work of assembly members to pass the budget before the year's end, a goal that has now been successfully realized with the governor's assent.
The administration has now set its sights on the immediate and effective execution of the ₦1.669 trillion 2026 budget, with a firm commitment to achieving better budget performance and driving sustainable development across Ogun State.
