Governor Aiyedatiwa Vows Zero Tolerance for Bandits in Ondo Border Towns
Aiyedatiwa: No Haven for Bandits in Ondo Border Areas

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has issued a firm declaration that criminal elements will find no sanctuary in the state's border communities. The governor gave this assurance on Wednesday, 18 December 2024, during his ongoing statewide 'Thank-You' tour.

Security Pledge to Border Local Governments

Governor Aiyedatiwa specifically addressed residents in Ose, Owo, and Akure North Local Government Areas, reaffirming that his administration's top priority is the protection of lives and property. He stated that banditry and related criminal activities would not be tolerated in these regions.

The governor highlighted the significant impact of security measures already implemented. He pointed to the establishment of an Amotekun Rangers camp and the strategic deployment of its operatives as key factors that have drastically reduced crime. This improved security environment, according to Aiyedatiwa, has allowed farmers and traders to resume their activities without fear.

"We will not leave you alone and allow something bad to happen to you," the governor emphatically told the communities, adding that all security agencies remain on high alert.

Governance at the Grassroots and Infrastructure Promises

The seven-day tour is designed to bring governance closer to the people, appreciate their support, and showcase completed and ongoing projects. With Christmas less than nine days away, the governor also used the opportunity to distribute palliatives and extend seasonal goodwill to residents.

In Ose Local Government, Governor Aiyedatiwa directly addressed the poor state of roads, assuring constituents that repairs are imminent. He also expressed concern over the prolonged Olufon of Ifon chieftaincy dispute, insisting that the government would not impose a ruler on the people.

He stressed that the town must follow due process in line with the official chieftaincy declaration of 1969. The governor promised to present the staff of office once a candidate is properly selected through the correct procedures.

Acknowledging Federal Support and Political Roots

Governor Aiyedatiwa credited the reforms of President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the state's capacity to deliver projects. He listed improved electricity supply, school shuttle buses, and other social interventions as outcomes enabled by these federal-level reforms.

During his stop in Owo, the governor reaffirmed his deep connection with the town. He recalled how the late former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, chose him as deputy governor. Aiyedatiwa noted that Owo delivered the highest number of votes for him in the last election, describing this support as a responsibility he intends to honour through responsive and people-oriented governance.

The governor concluded that the improved security across the state has successfully restored public confidence and strengthened the relationship between the government and the citizens of Ondo State.
