Ondo Commissioner Praises Governor Aiyedatiwa's Focus on Sanitation, Water Projects
Akande hails Aiyedatiwa's commitment to water, sanitation

The Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Sanitation, Ayodele Akande, has publicly commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his dedicated leadership and focus on developing the state's critical infrastructure.

Akande Lauds Governor's Visionary Leadership

In a goodwill message marking the governor's 61st birthday on 12 January 2026, Akande described Aiyedatiwa as an industrial and visionary leader. He noted that since assuming office, the governor has shown dynamism, focus, and candour in managing state affairs, earning the confidence and respect of citizens across Ondo.

Akande stated that the administration's renewed emphasis on public sanitation has led to tangible improvements. These include better environmental hygiene, reduced public health risks, and the promotion of a cleaner, safer living environment for all residents.

Strategic Focus on Water Resources Development

The commissioner highlighted that the Aiyedatiwa administration has placed a high priority on water resources, recognising that access to clean water is fundamental to public health and economic growth.

He disclosed that several existing water schemes across the state are currently undergoing rehabilitation and expansion. Simultaneously, new initiatives are being rolled out to ensure a sustainable water supply reaches both urban centres and rural communities.

Akande gave special attention to the Owena Multipurpose Dam, describing it as a critical asset for the state's water supply infrastructure. He emphasised that the dam is a major source of potable water for Akure and its surrounding areas.

The present administration is committed to optimising the dam's capacity, he said. This will be achieved through sustained maintenance, improved management practices, and the enhancement of complementary distribution networks to boost water availability for residents.

Foundation Boosts Healthcare with Ultrasound Donation

In a related development, a non-governmental organisation, the Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo Foundation, has donated a state-of-the-art 4D Doppler ultrasound machine to the Ondo State General Hospital in Igbokoda, located in the Ilaje Local Council Area.

The foundation's president, Yetunde Obuotor, presented the equipment on the hospital grounds. She stated that the machine was donated to help save lives, noting that it would significantly strengthen diagnostic capabilities and improve overall healthcare delivery in the community.

"An ultrasound machine is not just a piece of equipment; it is a lifeline," Obuotor said. "It plays a crucial role in maternal and child health, emergency care, and the early detection of medical conditions."

Folashade Ajijo, the foundation's secretary of the board of trustees, explained that the philanthropic initiative was inspired by the legacy of their parents, who were natives of the community deeply committed to service and empowerment.

Alongside the equipment donation, the foundation provided free medical services to over 1,000 indigent residents of the state, further extending its impact on community health.
