The All Progressives Movement (APM) governorship candidate for Lagos State, Laja Adeoye, has sharply criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as a decades-long failure to address the state's housing crisis, according to a statement sighted by Legit.ng.
In his statement issued on Saturday, August 22, Adeoye directed particular criticism at Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, arguing that any suggestion for residents to share apartments or continue living with parents rather than receiving government intervention is an admission of failure from an administration that has governed the state for close to 30 years, during which Hamzat has been a key figure.
Adeoye's Housing Proposal
Rather than managing the shortage with what he called "lazy advice," Adeoye called for direct government action to build affordable homes across different parts of Lagos, combined with genuine public-private partnerships. He pointed to the housing legacy of former Lagos governor Alhaji Lateef Jakande as proof that large-scale affordable housing delivery is achievable.
"Governance is not about managing scarcity with lazy advice. It is about solving problems with clear, workable solutions," Adeoye said in the statement.
Beyond housing, Adeoye said his administration would empower more than 100,000 new entrepreneurs annually with real seed capital, arguing that Lagos's market size and population give small businesses the conditions to grow quickly. He said higher incomes would allow residents to afford decent homes without being crowded into family houses or cramped shared apartments.
APC Accused of Serving Godfathers
Adeoye also accused the APC of prioritising the interests of political godfathers over people-centred housing projects.
"The ruling APC which Mr Hamzat represent will rather not do pro-peoples housing project but do the biddings of his god fathers," he said, promising that an APM government in Lagos would "bring good governance to your door step."
The statement was issued in Adeoye's capacity as the APM governorship candidate for Lagos State for the 2027 general elections.
APM Lagos Candidate Reacts to Adeleke's Victory
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Prince Laja Adeoye, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on winning a second term in office following the August 2026 governorship election. Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from all 30 local government areas in Osun showed that Adeleke, running on the Accord Party platform, polled 511,067 votes against 444,815 votes recorded by his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APM candidate's criticism of the APC-led Lagos government comes as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections, with housing and economic empowerment expected to be key campaign issues.
