C&S Leader Proposes State Police, Restructuring to End Nigeria's Insecurity Crisis
C&S Leader: State Police Crucial to End Nigeria Insecurity

The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet Dr. Solomon Adegboyega Alao, has issued a stark warning about Nigeria's escalating security challenges. He presented a set of critical reforms which he believes are essential to pull the nation back from the brink.

Decentralized Policing and Local Leadership

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan on January 14, 2026, ahead of the church's 96th Annual General Conference, Alao identified the creation of state and local government police as a cornerstone solution. He argued that the current centralized policing system is failing to protect communities effectively.

The cleric emphasized that a decentralized approach would enable faster intelligence gathering and more responsive security interventions at the grassroots level. This, he stated, would help control the movement of suspicious individuals into local areas.

Furthermore, Prophet Alao insisted that security leadership must be localized. He proposed that Commissioners of Police and Divisional Police Officers should be indigenes of the states and communities they are assigned to. According to him, such officers would have a deeper commitment to protecting their own people and would be less likely to compromise on safety.

Tackling Root Causes: Grazing Laws and Governance

Beyond policing, the C&S leader pointed to other deep-seated issues fueling instability. He called for the strict enforcement of existing anti-open grazing laws, particularly in states that have already enacted them.

Alao linked the unchecked movement of cattle to heightened farmer-herder conflicts, reduced agricultural output, and a growing threat to national food security.

He also identified Nigeria's political culture as a major driver of crisis. The prophet urged the nation to "do away with godfatherism," which he said promotes incompetence, corruption, and exclusion in leadership. To reduce the cost of governance, he proposed a radical restructuring of the federation.

A Blueprint for Restructuring and 2027 Elections

In his detailed proposal, Alao suggested converting the existing six geopolitical zones into states, while downgrading the current 36 states to provinces. He argued this would streamline administration and eliminate duplicated roles.

He also advocated for a reduction in the size and cost of the National Assembly, calling for fewer legislators in both chambers. More powers, he said, should be devolved to sub-national governments to lessen the intense competition for control at the federal level.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Prophet Solomon Alao cautioned Nigerians to be vigilant and discerning in their choice of leaders. He warned that many politicians are driven solely by a desire for power and personal wealth.

He specifically charged Christians to engage more actively in the political process, guided by prayer and a collective search for leaders who possess integrity, vision, and the fear of God. His final warning was clear: failure to act decisively on these issues will lead to severe social and economic consequences for Nigeria.
