Inspection of Airport Road Bypass
As reported by Daily Trust, Governor Fubara made this statement on Friday while inspecting the progress of the new Airport Road Bypass in Port Harcourt. The project, which is 65% complete, is expected to be finished by October 2026. Fubara expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and highlighted that the bypass will provide an alternative route for communities near the airport.
Withdrawal from APC Governorship Race
This development comes days after Fubara withdrew from the Rivers State governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that the decision followed extensive consultations and emphasized unity and loyalty within the party. Despite stepping down, Fubara said he remains in high spirits and focused on governance.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor assured the people that every good work initiated will be completed. He reiterated the mantra, "Rivers First," and expressed optimism about the future.

The APC eventually declared its governorship candidate in Rivers State after conducting gubernatorial primary elections. Bitrus Kwamoti, chairman of the APC governorship primary election committee, announced the winner at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The emergence of the candidate occurred amid political tension following Fubara's withdrawal.
APC Addresses Disqualification of Aspirants
In related news, the APC in Rivers State revealed that 58 out of 65 House of Assembly aspirants disqualified by the party's screening committee have appealed the decision. Abdul Mahmud, chairman of the appeal committee, disclosed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt on May 14, 2026. Allegations have surfaced that those disqualified were loyalists of Governor Fubara, while those cleared supported Nyesom Wike.
