The Assistant Controller of Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre, Dalhat Ibrahim, has commended Governor Uba Sani's recent financial assistance to inmates granted clemency on 12 June, stating that the gesture will encourage them and other inmates to become law-abiding citizens. The governor, exercising his constitutional prerogative of mercy, freed 97 inmates and pledged financial support to help them transition back into society.
Cash Support Distributed
On Friday, officials of the Kaduna State Government gave each freed inmate N100,000 in cash support. Speaking after the distribution, Assistant Controller Ibrahim praised Governor Sani's kindness. "The governor's gesture will help us in achieving the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of the ex-inmates," he said.
Ibrahim added, "By paying the fine of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to go and do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into the society." He advised the freed prisoners to use the money as working capital to start a business or begin life afresh.
Government Officials Fulfill Promise
Senior Special Assistant to the governor on protocol, Mohammed Suleiman, said they were at the Custodian Centre as part of the final phase of the clemency granted on 12 June. He led senior government officials to fulfill Governor Sani's promise by extending N100,000 to each freed inmate. Suleiman reiterated the governor's counsel for the freed prisoners to be of good behavior and avoid any delinquent or criminal activity that could lead to re-imprisonment.
Freed Inmates Express Gratitude
One of the freed inmates, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, thanked the governor for "this opportunity for us to be out of prison. We very much appreciate what he has done for us. We thank him for giving us the money because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God will continue to bless him."
Another former inmate, Abubakar Umar, speaking in Hausa, described their release as a very happy day in their lives, facilitated by the governor. He prayed for God's blessings on Governor Sani, Kaduna State, and the country at large, and asked that the Almighty grant the governor's desires here and in the hereafter.
