Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially presented a massive N1.36 trillion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, marking one of the most ambitious spending plans in the state's recent history.

Record-Breaking Capital Expenditure Allocation

The proposed budget, totaling N1,368,127,929,271, features an unprecedented allocation of 68 percent to capital expenditure. This translates to N934.6 billion dedicated to developmental projects, while recurrent expenditure receives N433.4 billion, representing 32 percent of the total budget.

According to a statement released by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, this capital-to-recurrent ratio stands as one of the highest ever recorded in Kano State, demonstrating the administration's strong commitment to infrastructure development and long-term economic growth.

Sectoral Allocation: Education Takes Lion's Share

Governor Yusuf clearly outlined his administration's development priorities through the sectoral allocations, with the education sector emerging as the top beneficiary. The sector received N405.3 billion, accounting for 30 percent of the entire budget.

The infrastructure sector followed closely with N346.2 billion (25 percent), while health secured N212.2 billion (16 percent). These three sectors combined represent over 70 percent of the total budget allocation.

"These allocations demonstrate our unwavering determination to invest heavily in human capital development, safeguard the well-being of our people, and lay the physical foundation for sustainable growth," Governor Yusuf stated during the budget presentation.

Comprehensive Development Approach

Beyond the three major sectors, the 2026 fiscal plan also provides substantial provisions for other critical areas including agriculture, security, commerce, water resources, environment, tourism, and programs focused on women's and youth development.

The budget also includes support for people with special needs, reflecting the administration's commitment to inclusive development across all segments of Kano society.

Governor Yusuf described the budget as "a bold but realistic roadmap" specifically designed to secure a resilient and prosperous future for Kano State. He reaffirmed his administration's earlier pledge to align government priorities with the genuine aspirations of Kano citizens.

The Governor urgently appealed to state lawmakers to grant the bill expedited passage, emphasizing that their legislative oversight and partnership remain absolutely critical to transforming the budget's provisions into tangible projects and services that directly benefit the people of Kano.
