Kefas Unveils 14 Special Development Areas in Taraba

In a major push to reshape governance and deepen grassroots development, Governor Agbu Kefas has unveiled plans to create 14 Special Development Areas across Taraba State, describing the initiative as a bold step toward closing long standing development gaps and bringing government closer to rural communities. The announcement was made yesterday in Jalingo during celebrations marking the third anniversary of his administration.

New Development Structure

According to the governor, the new development structure is expected to take off in 2027 and is designed to strengthen local governance, improve coordination of security operations, and unlock socio-economic opportunities in underserved parts of the state. Kefas emphasized that the plan is not intended to expand bureaucracy, but to improve inclusivity and ensure equitable development across all communities.

“This initiative is not about expanding bureaucracy. It is about ensuring that no community in Taraba State is left behind,” he said.

Civil Service Reforms

Beyond the new development areas, the governor also pointed to ongoing reforms in the civil service. He noted that his administration has prioritized training and retraining programmes, conducted promotion exercises, and pursued targeted recruitment and institutional reforms aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.

“We remain committed to building a professional, motivated, and result-oriented civil service capable of driving sustainable development,” he added.

Broader Agenda

He further reaffirmed his government’s broader agenda, which includes expanding economic opportunities, strengthening public institutions, improving security operations, and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the state.

Appreciation and Support

Governor Kefas also expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, civil servants, youths, women, development partners, media practitioners, and citizens for their continued support throughout his administration. He particularly thanked members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), crediting their confidence and backing for enabling him to continue serving the people of Taraba State.
