Mustapha Kwankwaso previously served as the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf. He resigned from his position, along with three other commissioners, following a political realignment that saw Governor Yusuf defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Similarly, Aminu Gwarzo stepped down as deputy governor amid impeachment pressure from the state House of Assembly. Gwarzo, however, maintained that his resignation was due to personal reasons.
Kwankwasiyya Movement's Strategy
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, under the leadership of Senator Kwankwaso, has vowed to reclaim power from the APC in Kano State. The movement views the defection of Governor Yusuf to the APC as a betrayal and is determined to field a strong candidate to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming election.
