Enugu Unveils 10 Compactors, 7 Sweepers to Sustain Green State Status
Mbah Unveils Modern Sanitation Equipment for Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has launched a fleet of new environmental sanitation equipment, reinforcing the state's commitment to cleanliness and sustainable development following its recent national recognition.

Sustaining the Green State Legacy

The unveiling event took place at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu. The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, presented the new assets to the public. This move comes on the heels of Enugu being crowned the cleanest state and winner of the maiden Renewed Hope Model Green State Award in 2025.

Governor Mbah emphasized that the ceremony was more than just showcasing machinery. He described it as a tangible demonstration of his administration's dedication to building a future-ready Enugu. "With the introduction of this modern equipment, we are strengthening the backbone of our environmental infrastructure," the governor's representative stated.

The New Environmental Arsenal

The newly unveiled sanitation fleet is designed to boost the state's waste management capacity significantly. The assets include:

  • 10 brand new waste compactors
  • 7 automated street sweepers
  • 200 modern dumpsters

This investment aims to maintain the high standards of urban cleanliness that earned Enugu its prestigious title.

Cleanliness as an Economic Catalyst

Governor Mbah directly linked the state's environmental drive to its ambitious economic goals. He explained that a clean and safe city is foundational to his plan to grow Enugu's economy from $4.4 billion in 2023 to $30 billion by 2031.

"A city cannot grow if it is overwhelmed by waste," Mbah asserted. "Investors will not come, tourism cannot thrive, and the health of our people cannot be guaranteed. That is why environmental reform has been a central pillar of our governance strategy."

The governor restated his administration's promise to create a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Enugu. He positioned environmental sustainability not just as a civic duty but as a core component of the state's competitiveness and readiness for significant growth and investment.
