NULGE Hails Akwa Ibom Governor Over Workers' Arrears Payment

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has expressed strong commendation for Governor Umo Eno following the payment of outstanding arrears owed to local government workers across the state. The union described this development as a clear demonstration of the governor's dedication to workers' welfare and the well-being of public servants at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued by the State President of NULGE, Anestina Iweh, the union extended its appreciation to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong; the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udo; as well as all 31 local government chairmen for their collective efforts in ensuring the settlement of the outstanding obligations.

According to NULGE, the payment has brought significant relief to local government workers throughout the state and has renewed confidence in the government among employees who had patiently awaited the resolution of the arrears. The union noted that the successful clearance of these outstanding obligations reflects the administration's understanding of the challenges faced by local government workers and its commitment to improving staff welfare, motivation, and productivity.

The union further stated that this development has strengthened workers' confidence in the leadership of Governor Eno and other stakeholders who played key roles in facilitating the payment process. “The payment of these outstanding arrears demonstrates the government’s commitment to the welfare of local government workers and has restored confidence among our members,” the statement read.

NULGE also pledged the continued support, loyalty, and dedication of local government workers to the implementation of the state’s ARISE Agenda, assuring the government of their commitment to efficient and effective service delivery at the grassroots. The union emphasized that local government employees remain critical to public service delivery and community development across the state, adding that improved welfare would further enhance their productivity and commitment to duty.

Observers view the settlement of the outstanding obligations as another step towards strengthening the local government system and improving service delivery across Akwa Ibom State.
