Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun Commissions Iworo-Ogbogbo-Igbeba Road, Pledges Two More Projects
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has officially commissioned the 5.2-kilometre Iworo–Ogbogbo–Igbeba Road in the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area, marking a significant milestone in the state's infrastructural development. During the ceremony, Governor Abiodun made a firm commitment to construct two additional roads in the same council area before the end of the year, reinforcing his administration's dedication to improving connectivity and economic growth.
Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Impact
Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun emphasized the road's critical role in supporting local farmers and commuters, describing it as a fulfillment of a campaign promise from his 2023 re-election bid. He specifically highlighted plans to prioritize the reconstruction of the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway, addressing community requests. The governor noted that the newly commissioned road links Ijebu North-East to Ijebu-Ode, facilitating smoother transportation of agricultural produce to markets and serving as an extension of last year's Igbeba Road project in Ijebu-Ode.
"We are being intentional about this. I will describe it as our own infrastructural emancipation of the entire Ijebuland," Governor Abiodun stated, underscoring the strategic importance of the project in boosting regional development.
Infrastructure Improvements and Community Benefits
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, detailed the enhancements made to the road, which previously suffered from dilapidation. The reconstruction now includes reinforced concrete drainage systems designed to improve durability and safety, significantly enhancing connectivity across the axis. This upgrade is part of broader initiatives aimed at stimulating economic activities and attracting investment to the area.
Oba Asebisi Onafunwa, the Oniworo of Iworo, praised the project for its positive impact on commercial activities and access to farmlands. He also called for the installation of solar-powered streetlights to further improve security and nighttime usability. Other community leaders, including Oba Oluremi Obayomi of Ilese Kingdom, echoed these sentiments, describing the road as a welcome development that addresses long-standing infrastructure needs.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration's commitment to extensive road construction across Ogun State, noting that over 1,600 kilometres of roads have been built since 2019, with a target of an additional 2,000 kilometres before the end of his tenure. He expressed satisfaction that improved infrastructure has already attracted interest from companies willing to provide taxi services, enhancing mobility and economic opportunities in Ijebuland.
The project has yielded immediate benefits, including reduced travel times, improved access to essential services such as markets, schools, and health facilities, and fostered intra-community trade. Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, representing the Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency, commended the administration's infrastructural drive, highlighting significant gains for the constituency.
