Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a significant disclosure regarding the state's financial standing following the recent period of emergency rule. The governor announced that his administration discovered approximately ₦600 billion in the state's coffers upon returning to office.
Financial Disclosure and Transparency Pledge
Governor Fubara provided detailed insights during a public address, stating that prior to the emergency rule period, his government had already set aside over ₦300 billion in reserves. He emphasized his administration's unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline and the prudent management of public resources.
"Our position on accountability is clear and non-negotiable," Fubara declared. "Before the emergency period, we had set aside over ₦300 billion, and on our return, we met a balance of about ₦600 billion."
In a move to bolster public trust, the governor issued a firm commitment to financial transparency. He assured residents that within the next six months, his administration would present clear and verifiable records detailing the utilization of public funds across all state projects and expenditures.
Project Commissioning and Development Focus
The financial revelations were made during the commissioning ceremony of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road. This vital infrastructure project links long-neglected communities in the Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.
Fubara used the occasion to highlight his administration's quiet yet impactful approach to governance. He explained that misconceptions about resource management may have arisen because his government prioritizes project execution over elaborate public ceremonies.
"We do not believe governance is about noise. Our focus is on delivery, and the results will speak louder than any ceremony," the governor stated, as reported by Vanguard.
He further noted that while the Obodhi–Ozochi Road is a flagship project, numerous other impactful initiatives are currently underway across Rivers State, awaiting formal unveiling.
Road Project History and Expansion
Providing background on the newly commissioned road, Governor Fubara acknowledged that the project was initially conceived by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. According to Channels Television, the project was part of political mobilization efforts ahead of the 2023 general elections, coordinated through a former lawmaker and then Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
Fubara revealed that the project's successful initial delivery necessitated not only its completion but also an expansion of its scope. The road was extended by an additional 4.2 kilometres, bringing the total length to 14.2 kilometres. Responding to community requests, the governor also approved the construction of internal roads to enhance local access and mobility.
During the event, Fubara urged Edison Ehie to channel the substantial public turnout into sustained political support for President Bola Tinubu, stating such backing would facilitate the President's re-election efforts. He reiterated that every resource in Rivers State is being deployed strictly for public benefit, with visible transformations reflecting responsible, people-centred governance.
The governor concluded by asserting that his administration's record on accountability and transparency is robust and can withstand scrutiny from any fair-minded observer.
