In a powerful joint message of harmony, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, and the leader of the Arewa Community in the state, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, have made a fervent appeal for peace and unity among all Nigerians during the Christmas celebrations.
Governor Soludo's Message of Hope and Security
Governor Soludo, in a Christmas goodwill message released by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime on Thursday, December 25, 2025, described the season as a profound embodiment of peace, hope, love, and redemption. He stated that these core values align with the collective yearning for a better society and nation.
The governor stressed that Christmas goes beyond mere festivities, serving as a crucial period to reflect on the virtues of compassion, selflessness, and unity taught by Jesus Christ. He urged Christians in Anambra and across Nigeria to practice the true essence of Christmas by showing love and generosity, especially to the less privileged in their communities.
On security, Professor Soludo gave firm reassurance to all residents and visitors. "Our administration is committed to ensuring your stay is smooth and secure," he declared, promising a safe environment throughout the festive period and beyond. He concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas filled with blessings and a hopeful New Year.
Arewa Community Leader Highlights Interdependence
Echoing the governor's sentiments, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Anambra State, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, who also serves as the Sarkin Fulani of Anambra, called on Christians to use the occasion to strengthen bonds with their Muslim neighbours.
Siddiki provided a striking economic perspective, noting the significant role Northerners play in enabling Christmas celebrations in the South-East. He revealed that approximately 98% of the cattle and 80% of the foodstuffs consumed during the period originate from the Northern part of Nigeria.
He implored the government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and all community stakeholders to sustain advocacy for peaceful coexistence. His plea emphasized that harmony should transcend all lines of ethnicity, religion, gender, or settlement.
A Call for Sustained Harmony and Leadership
Alhaji Siddiki specifically prayed for improved peace, unity, tolerance, and understanding among Northerners living in Anambra, the wider South-East zone, and their host communities. He commended Governor Soludo for his inclusive leadership style, which does not discriminate between Christians and Muslims.
This non-discriminatory approach, according to Siddiki, has been instrumental in reducing tension and violence within the state, setting a positive example for interfaith relations. The dual messages from the state's political and Arewa community leadership underscore a shared vision for a secure, united, and prosperous Anambra where all citizens and settlers can thrive together in peace.
