Taraba Youths Accuse Senator Lau of 12 Years of Neglect

A group of youths from Northern Taraba has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the representation of Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau, accusing him of neglect and failure to deliver meaningful development to the constituency over the past 12 years.

The concerns were raised on Wednesday in a statement issued by Comrade Sauma Bala, President of Bikwin Youths in Karim Lamido Local Government Area. He stated that the people had entrusted the senator with their mandate for three consecutive terms but have little to show for it.

Underdevelopment and Unemployment

According to the group, communities across the six local government areas in Northern Taraba remain underdeveloped, with many youths facing unemployment and women lacking adequate support. They alleged that federal constituency allocations meant to improve living conditions have not translated into visible impact.

Security and Humanitarian Challenges

The statement also highlighted security and humanitarian challenges in the area, including a violent incident in Bikwin community in Karim Lamido LGA, where more than 80 people were reportedly killed. The group said the tragedy left families devastated and plunged communities into mourning.

They further cited hardship caused by natural disasters such as flooding, fire outbreaks, and drought, claiming that affected residents received little or no intervention. The youths questioned the senator’s response during these crises, alleging a lack of presence and engagement at critical moments.

“Leadership is not about occupying a seat; it is about standing with your people when it matters most,” the statement read, adding that the perceived silence of their representative reflects a broader failure of responsibility.

Call for Change in 2027

The group called on residents of Northern Taraba to reassess their electoral choices ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging voters to prioritise performance, accountability, and compassion in leadership. They stressed that future support would be based on tangible results rather than campaign promises, warning that the voices of the people would no longer be ignored.
