The Ogun State Government has declared a significant victory in its security efforts, revealing that extensive tree-planting activities have successfully displaced criminal elements from the state's forest reserves.
Forestry Initiative Creates Hostile Environment for Criminals
Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, announced that ongoing reforestation projects have made these natural habitats inhospitable for kidnappers, militant groups, and land grabbers. He made this statement in Abeokuta on 8 January 2026 during a prayer session organized by the ministry for its staff.
Oludotun explained that the consistent human activity and environmental changes caused by the tree-planting drive have forced these criminal outfits to abandon their hideouts within the reserves. This initiative forms a critical part of the state's multi-faceted approach to improving security and reclaiming public spaces.
Ministry Equipped for Greater Productivity
Addressing the staff, the Commissioner urged for positivity and teamwork, emphasizing that no task is insurmountable with the right mindset. He disclosed that the state government has provided the ministry with essential facilities to create an enabling work environment and meet its ambitious goals for the year.
Among the newly acquired equipment are solar lighting systems and walkie-talkies, intended to streamline operations and enhance communication within the forestry service. Oludotun stressed that achieving the ministry's objectives would require the collective effort of all staff members.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Oyesanwen, advised employees to strictly adhere to due process and ensure all official communications pass through the appropriate administrative channels.

In a related development, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, congratulated his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, on her 60th birthday.
