Governor Yusuf Issues Stern Warning to Commissioners Amid Political Shifts
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has delivered a firm ultimatum to his cabinet members, declaring that any commissioner who fails to adhere to the principles and dictates of his administration will be "booted out". This warning comes in the wake of ongoing political realignment and follows the recent defection of key figures to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Notable Absences at Executive Council Meeting
During the 38th Executive Council Meeting held on Thursday, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, was conspicuously absent. Gwarzo is currently facing a two-week notice to clear his name before the State House of Assembly, with impeachment proceedings pending against him. While it remains uncertain whether his absence is directly linked to the impeachment saga, the situation adds to the political tension.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Shehu Wada Sagagi, was also missing from the council meeting, further highlighting potential divisions within the administration.
Governor's Strong Stance on Loyalty and Unity
In his address, Governor Yusuf emphasized that "it will not be business as usual" for those whose loyalty may be divided. He revealed that he has accepted the resignations of five commissioners who voluntarily left his administration, wishing them well in their future endeavors.
The governor appealed to the remaining commissioners who have chosen to stay with the APC government to do so with sincerity and commitment. He stressed the importance of unity, stating, "We are still one party and we must work together for the betterment of our people."
Yusuf explicitly warned that the era of disloyalty, leaking official information, and internal conflicts is over. He made it clear that cabinet members must align with the government's principles and procedures or face removal, reinforcing his message with a direct threat: "whoever goes contrary to the dictates and principles of this administration will not be booted out."
Reasons Behind the Political Realignment
Governor Yusuf also took the opportunity to explain his decision to defect to the ruling APC, citing extensive consultations prior to the move. He highlighted the support received from all 44 local government chairmen and 24 out of the 26 members of the State House of Assembly, along with other critical stakeholders who abandoned the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Insisting that this political shift was made in the best interest of Kano State, Yusuf underscored his commitment to unity and cooperation within the administration. He urged commissioners to provide maximum support to all who need it, fostering a collaborative environment for governance.
