Governor Zulum Reflects on Borno Insecurity, Calls for Joint Effort and Prayer
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, delivered a statewide broadcast yesterday, reflecting on the recent resurgence of insecurity in parts of the state and urging a unified approach to combat the menace. In his address, he emphasized the need for both solemn reflection and resolute unity among citizens.
Addressing Security Concerns and Reassuring Control
Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over the recent uptick in insecurity over the past few weeks but assured residents that the overall security environment remains under control. As the Chief Security Officer, he stated that his administration is doing everything possible to protect lives and property. He highlighted that over the past seven years, the government has worked tirelessly to restore peace and prosperity to Borno, responding promptly with positive actions on every occasion.
We have not allowed the dark dreams of the wayward ones to take root, and instead, we have fostered hope and resilience among the communities affected by the conflict, Zulum said. He credited a combination of consultations, collective planning, and strong support from security agencies and the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), with divine assistance, for achieving some measure of success and peace.
Warning Against Complacency and Outlining Future Actions
The governor cautioned that the decrease in past attacks does not signal the end of the insurgency. He acknowledged that much more needs to be done at the leadership level to permanently address the root causes of the madness and illogical attacks targeting peace-loving people. Zulum reassured citizens that the worst days are over, noting that constant assessments are being made, and a robust, coordinated response is already in motion.
These cowardly elements who seek to disturb our peace will obtain no sanctuary in Borno State. We will deal decisively with their recent resurgence, he declared, underscoring the government's commitment to maintaining security.
Emphasizing Collective Responsibility and Offering Sympathy
Governor Zulum stressed that the fight against insecurity is not solely the responsibility of the military but a collective effort. He emphasized the importance of cordial and close collaboration with military forces, noting that they need the eyes and ears of the community to effectively protect citizens. Zulum extended his deepest sympathies to the families of gallant soldiers, security personnel, and volunteer forces who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
He also expressed heartfelt condolences to every civilian whose life has been disrupted by the situation, praising their resilience as the bedrock of the state. The power of prayer in unison is a weapon no enemy can withstand, Zulum added, highlighting the role of spiritual solidarity in overcoming challenges.
