Borno Governor Zulum Vows to Hunt Down Terrorist Informants and Sympathizers

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has made a resolute declaration to track down and prosecute all individuals who provide support to Boko Haram terrorists, including informants and sympathizers. The governor delivered this stern warning during a state-wide broadcast on Thursday, March 19, emphasizing that such actions will no longer be tolerated.

Direct Warning to Terrorist Collaborators

In his address, Governor Zulum directly addressed those aiding the terrorists, stating, "To those who feed them with information, shelter them and their sympathizers, and provide logistical support, your time is up." He further asserted, "You are not patriots; you are enemies of the state. You will be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law. Your actions betray our collective peace, and we will no longer tolerate them."

Context of Recent Security Challenges

The governor attributed the recent spike in terrorist attacks to the sustained and aggressive military operations across the region, which he believes have pressured the insurgents. He expressed deep concern over the resurgence of insecurity in parts of the state over the past few weeks, noting that it threatens the hard-won peace achieved in recent years.

Despite these challenges, Zulum reassured citizens that the overall security environment remains under control. "As the Chief Security Officer, let me assure you that the overall security environment, while tested, remains under control, and we are doing everything possible to protect lives and property," he said.

Seven Years of Peacebuilding Efforts

Governor Zulum highlighted the tireless efforts made over the past seven years to restore peace and prosperity to Borno State. He detailed how his administration has responded with prompt and positive actions on every occasion, preventing the "dark dreams of the wayward ones" from taking root. Instead, the government has fostered hope and resilience among communities affected by the conflict.

Through a combination of consultations, collective planning, and strong support from security agencies and the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), Zulum noted that significant progress has been made. However, he cautioned against complacency, stating, "We do not believe that the decrease in past attacks signals the end of the insurgency. No, it is not. In fact, at the leadership level, we are very conscious of the fact that much more needs to be done to permanently address the root of this madness and the menace of illogical attacks among our peace-loving people."

Sympathy and Resilience

In his broadcast, Governor Zulum extended his deepest sympathies to the families of gallant soldiers, security personnel, and volunteer forces who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He also expressed solidarity with civilians whose lives have been disrupted by the ongoing insecurity, praising their resilience as the bedrock of the state.

"Your resilience is the bedrock of our state, and the power of prayer in unison is a weapon no enemy can withstand," he concluded, emphasizing the collective strength needed to overcome the challenges posed by terrorism.
