NANS Defends Youth Minister, Condemns Smear Campaign

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rallied in support of the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayo Olawande Wisdom, condemning what it described as a sustained campaign of persecution and misinformation against the minister.

NANS President Speaks Out

In a statement issued by the President of the NANS Senate, Dist. Sen. Usman Adamu Nagwaza (Don Manu), the student body expressed concern over what it termed “unhealthy criticism” directed at Olawande. The association insisted that the attacks were driven not by a desire for accountability but by “toxic politics, division, and bigotry.”

Commitment to Constructive Scrutiny

While reaffirming its commitment to holding public office holders accountable, NANS emphasised that such scrutiny must remain constructive, objective, and devoid of ulterior motives. The association highlighted several strides recorded by the minister since assuming office, noting that he has championed youth-focused policies and programmes aimed at fostering national development.

Key Achievements of the Minister

NANS cited efforts to strengthen youth empowerment through skills acquisition initiatives, broaden access to funding for young entrepreneurs, and promote digital innovation among Nigerian youths. According to the statement, Olawande has also deepened youth inclusion in governance by actively engaging student leaders and youth stakeholders nationwide, while supporting initiatives that drive job creation and capacity development at the grassroots.

Minister Described as Resourceful Leader

Describing the minister as a “resourceful and purposeful leader,” NANS said his leadership has repositioned the Ministry of Youth Development and reaffirmed the potential of Nigerian youths as critical drivers of national progress. The association, however, decried what it called a “coordinated campaign of blackmail and misinformation,” urging those behind such actions to desist in the interest of national cohesion.

Call for Unity and Collective Responsibility

NANS further called for unity and collective responsibility, stressing that governance should be assessed based on measurable performance and impact rather than political sentiments.
