The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has extended its congratulations to Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following his recent installation with a significant traditional title.
A Major Cultural Honour Bestowed
On December 21, 2025, Seyi Tinubu was installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade. In a formal statement released to the press, YOWICAN's President, Ambassador Belusochukwu Enwere, described this conferment as a profound cultural recognition. He stated it reflects an appreciation for leadership, dedicated service, and a commitment to driving societal development forward.
Ambassador Enwere emphasized that the Alaafin's decision to bestow this title underscores the enduring relevance of Nigeria's traditional institutions. He noted their critical role in fostering unity, peace, and shared values across the nation's diverse ethnic and religious landscape.
A Call to Service for Youth Leadership
YOWICAN's message framed the installation as more than a personal accolade. The group characterized it as a call to greater service and a demonstration of trust in the recipient's capacity to contribute to national progress. Enwere pointed out that this honour arrives at a pivotal moment for Nigeria, a time when building bridges of understanding between generations, faiths, and ethnic groups is paramount.
"This installation is not merely a personal honour. It is a call to service and a demonstration of trust in the ability of the recipient to contribute meaningfully to national development, especially in uplifting the youth," Enwere affirmed.
The Christian youth body also commended Oba Abimbola Owoade for his dedication to preserving Yoruba cultural heritage. They praised the monarch for utilizing traditional platforms to promote core values like integrity, service, and leadership among the younger generation of Nigerians.
Expectations for Youth Empowerment and Harmony
Highlighting Seyi Tinubu's involvement in youth-focused initiatives and philanthropy, YOWICAN expressed optimism that the new title would inspire further action. "As youths, we see this honour as an opportunity for renewed engagement. It is our expectation that the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland will further inspire Seyi Tinubu to champion youth empowerment, peaceful coexistence and inclusive national development," Enwere added.
The association stressed that such recognitions should actively serve as platforms for strengthening interfaith harmony and national cohesion. YOWICAN reassured of its continued commitment to supporting initiatives that encourage responsible and impactful leadership among young people across the country.
The congratulatory message concluded with prayers for Seyi Tinubu's successful tenure in his new role, wishing him wisdom, humility, and strength to uphold the esteemed values associated with the title of Okanlomo.
This development follows the earlier installation of businessman Prince Dotun Sanusi as the Okanlomo of Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, two weeks prior. Furthermore, former presidential aide Reno Omokri also congratulated Seyi Tinubu, describing the chieftaincy title as well-deserved and praising his prowess in building bridges across different segments of society.
