Gunmen have killed five people and injured two others in an attack on the office of the Hunters Association in the Gidan Waya community, Jema'a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The assault occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, when the assailants stormed the community, opening fire and forcing residents to flee.
Details of the Attack
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said four of the victims were members of the Hunters Association, while the fifth was a civilian. After the attack, community members and the district head evacuated the victims, and the injured were taken to the Anglican Hospital in Gidan Waya for treatment.
The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Gidan Waya Command’s intelligence officer, Gaji Ampot, confirmed the attack to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Ampot stated that the gunmen stormed the office from two opposite directions and opened fire on the personnel while they were carrying out official duties.
Victims and Response
“All but one of the victims were our men. The fifth person killed was a student who was in our office to resolve an issue,” Ampot said. Security operatives under Operation FANSAN YAMMA later launched a pursuit. Troops tracked the suspects towards Jagindi Forest, recovering an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, and a motorcycle after one suspect fled.
The attack has heightened security concerns in the area, with residents calling for increased patrols and vigilance. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the attackers to come forward.
