Governor Aliyu Appeals for Continued Support to IDPs After Ramadan in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has called on Muslims across the state to maintain the charitable spirit demonstrated during the holy month of Ramadan by persistently assisting internally displaced persons (IDPs) even after the fasting period concludes.

In his Eid-el-Fitr message, Governor Aliyu highlighted that Islam strongly encourages aiding the less-privileged, noting that such acts foster Islamic brotherhood and promote love and unity between the affluent and the poor.

Government Efforts and Community Support

Governor Aliyu emphasized that IDPs require ongoing support from compassionate citizens to complement government initiatives aimed at improving their living conditions. He detailed that since assuming office, his administration has provided sustained assistance to security agencies to combat banditry, which has displaced numerous communities, particularly in the eastern regions of Sokoto State.

The state government has also implemented measures to enhance the welfare of individuals residing in IDP camps. Governor Aliyu disclosed that 100 houses have been constructed for displaced persons in Illela Local Council, with plans to build additional homes in other parts of the state.

"The state government has also been providing food and other forms of assistance to various IDP camps within the metropolis and beyond," the Governor stated.

Commendation and Call for Continued Action

Governor Aliyu praised well-to-do individuals in Sokoto for complementing government efforts by offering food and support to IDPs during Ramadan, describing it as highly commendable. He stressed the necessity for affluent members of society to continue supporting vulnerable groups to aid government endeavors in improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

"In the past two years, we have disbursed hundreds of millions of naira and distributed food items and clothing materials to the physically challenged, widows, orphans, internally displaced persons, and other needy citizens across the state," he explained.

Promotion of Islamic Values and State Development

This intervention is in addition to support provided to Imams, Deputy Imams, Muazzins, and Islamic preachers statewide to promote the teaching of Islamic values and ideals. "We will continue to support Islamic propagation to ensure that the true ideals of Islam are taught in every nook and cranny of the state," Governor Aliyu added.

He assured residents of Sokoto State of his administration's unwavering commitment to executing meaningful projects that will transform the state, with a focus on infrastructure and urban renewal. Governor Aliyu called for sustained public support to fully implement the 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda for state development.

Additionally, he urged citizens to continue praying for lasting peace and harmonious coexistence in Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole. While wishing the Muslim Ummah a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Governor Aliyu appealed for constructive advice and support from the people to build a better Sokoto State.
