Residents of Tsaragi community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state have been thrown into panic after armed bandits reportedly invaded the town, killing one resident and abducting another person during the attack.
Attack Details
The incident occurred between 1:30 am and 2:00 am on Saturday, May 9, when the attackers stormed a residential area in the community and attacked a man identified simply as Baba Nnayaya. Community sources told Legit.ng that the gunmen invaded the victim’s residence and demanded money from him before the situation turned violent.
According to residents living close to the deceased, Baba Nnayaya reportedly pleaded with the attackers to spare his life, telling them he would hand over the little money he had. “He was begging them seriously,” one resident said. “He told them if it was money they wanted, they should take the little amount he had and leave him alone. But despite his pleas, they still attacked him.”
Sources further disclosed that another resident who rushed to the house after hearing cries for help was abducted by the gunmen during the operation. “A person who came out to assist Baba Nnayaya when he heard the noise was later kidnapped by the bandits.”
Community in Fear
Residents said the attack has heightened tension across Tsaragi and neighbouring villages in the Edu local government area, with many locals now afraid of possible repeated invasions. “The whole community is in fear now because nobody expected them to enter the main town like this,” the source added.
The latest incident came barely days after suspected kidnappers reportedly abducted some Fulani residents near the Yana Kokonna area of Tsaragi.
Similar Attack in Patigi
In a related development, residents of Lata Woro community in Patigi Local Government Area of the state were earlier thrown into panic after heavily armed bandits launched an evening attack on the community on Saturday. Sources told Legit.ng that the attackers killed one resident and injured another during the invasion, which forced many locals to flee for safety.
Community members said the sound of gunshots created widespread fear across the area before security operatives responded to distress calls from residents. Military personnel deployed to the area were reportedly engaged in a gun duel with the attackers and eventually succeeded in repelling the assault. This immediate response from the Army prevented what residents feared could have resulted in more casualties and possible abductions.
“The soldiers responded quickly and confronted the bandits. Their intervention prevented the situation from becoming worse,” a local source told Legit.ng. The injured victim was said to have been taken for medical treatment at the Patigi General Hospital, while security surveillance around the community has since been intensified amid fears of another possible attack.
