A combined team of security operatives fell into a deadly ambush by suspected bandits in Kaduna State on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a police officer and injuries to several military personnel.
Details of the Deadly Ambush
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at approximately 2:55 PM. According to reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama, the security team was ambushed along the Kuzuntu axis of Anchau, in Kubau Local Government Area.
The team comprised personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, operatives of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS), and local vigilantes. They had been on an official assignment at the government grazing reserve in Kuzuntu.
Mission Preceding the Attack
The security team's deployment followed a specific request. The Chairman of Kubau Local Government Council had asked them to escort staff from an Agro-Industry company and local officials. Their task was to take measurements of the grazing area within the reserve.
The initial exercise was completed successfully without incident. However, the situation turned violent during their return journey. Armed men, believed to be bandits, launched a surprise attack on the convoy.
Casualties and Aftermath
In the ensuing attack, Police Constable Sunday Ishaya sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Several soldiers in the team also suffered various degrees of injuries.
All casualties were quickly evacuated to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Tragically, PC Sunday Ishaya was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The injured military personnel are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be responding positively.
The body of the slain police officer has been deposited at the General Hospital in Ikara. The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, despite ongoing military and police operations.
