Armed bandits launched a deadly assault on farmlands in the Goron Namaye district of Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of 16 farmers and injuries to 13 others.

The Chairman of Maradun Local Government, Hon. Sanusi Ahmed Dosara, confirmed the incident. He stated that a large group of bandits carried out the attack on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Eyewitness Account
A local resident, Dan Inna Gora, reported counting at least 17 bodies, while 13 others sustained gunshot wounds of varying severity. The injured have been taken to the hospital for medical care. Gora also disclosed that the bandit leader had previously issued a warning, instructing residents of Goron Namaye to abandon their farming activities this season.
Security Response
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed that troops from the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, along with local vigilantes, responded promptly after receiving a distress call. Sources indicate that soldiers at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Faru were alerted around 10:40 a.m. about armed bandits attacking villagers working on farms in the Gora area.
Upon receiving the report, the troops immediately mobilized to the scene in coordination with local vigilantes. However, by the time security forces arrived, the attackers had escaped into a nearby forest. The troops pursued the terrorists along their withdrawal route in an attempt to intercept them, but no further engagement occurred.
Abductions Reported
Preliminary reports suggest that an unspecified number of residents were also abducted by the bandits, although authorities have yet to confirm the exact figure.
